Lionfish - The Hunt is On!

With out a doubt Lionfish are here to stay, their rapid invasion of Caribbean, Gulf and Atlantic waters over the
last decade has been well documented. Here in Florida they literally have us surrounded and have even been
spotted as far north as New York. That Gulf Stream sure is a perfect superhighway for them. These voracious
little predators pose quite a serious a threat to the native fish populations and coral reefs. With no predators
in their newfound water, these indiscriminate eaters gobble down mass amounts of juvenile fish and just about
anything they can fit in their mouths. To compound the problem the Lionfish matures quickly, spawning with
in their first year of life, and once they start they don't stop. Females can spawn every four days, year
round, making them capable of producing an estimated 2 million eggs a year. Add a 15-year life span and
you can begin to imagine the full scope of the problem... Keep reading!

Fishing the wrecks off Ft. Myers Beach has been producing good numbers of cobia. Look for the wrecks that's holding the bait and this is where you'll find the cobes. There's plenty of thread herring around to fatten them up.
